My name is Deandra and I am a mother of two beautiful girls. Life has delivered us many ups and downs. I relocated to Granite City area in May of 2017 with the hopes of starting a new life for my girls. I moved into my new place with a roommate only to find that the building was in foreclosure and that I would not be able to stay there for much longer.
What was I to do?
I heard of Good Samaritan House and went there seeking assistance. I was able to move my family into the shelter and begin my journey to independence. I started by enrolling my children into programs at the YMCA. I developed a resume and started seeking opportunity for building a stronger future for my family. I began to feel confident that I would achieve my goals.
"I am proud to announce that I am now employed and gaining the confidence that I need to live independently."
I am now enrolled in Good Samaritan House’s Rapid Rehousing Program where I will partner with GSH to make sure that my income and support meets the expectations that are being presented to me. We are on our way from close but not enough to finished and successful.
Thank you, Good Samaritan House for providing safety to my family.
In addition to working, I am doing something that I am passionate about, ART! I have the support of my caseworker to help me in achieving all of my goals, which has instilled in me a newfound confidence.
